For something so simple, I feel very accomplished.  I didn't even know you could do this yourself so easily until recently. Today, I actually made my own butter and buttermilk!

Now I have always just bought butter at the store without a thought to how it is actually made or what it's made from. Who knew that all you need is some fresh cream and a mixer?

Why make my own butter? Well I was curious for one, and two, it does taste so much better since there are no additives or preservatives in it. I can't wait to try my hand at making some buttermilk buiscuts or pancakes.  Mmm!

Precious Last Days

This past weekend was a whirlwind of fun. We tried to soak up as much of Richmond as we could.  Richmond truly does have a lot to offer, especially in the warmer months when it's not just the mosquitos and summer legs coming out.  People can be found sitting on front porches sipping iced tea in mason jars, groups of kids riding bikes by with hair blowing back, songbirds lining the power lines, and the many, many events going on outside carrying a variety of tunes in through open windows.

Some of our weekend highlights included:

Going to see Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears play on Browns Island with good friends.  I always love a good outdoor concert.  It always just feels like summertime when you get to watch a favorite band and a sunset over the river at the same time.

We also met up with friends at the RVA Beer Fest.  Delicious! and Bravo, Gallery 5, for putting on such an awesome event!

We also got in a little time soaking up the sun on Belle Isle.  I still think it may be my favorite place in the city. Where else can you go that you can swim, rock hop, walk through lush shady trees engulfed in the smell of honeysuckle and river water, all while looking at a gorgeous city skyline?  Nowhere. That's what I thought. So many fond memories there.

These are the kinds of things that make me fall in love with life and remind me of how very blessed we are.  Thank you God for summer in the city.

Baila Baila!

While you may not immediately know this about me, one of my most favorite things to do is go Salsa dancing.  Some days, it's all I can do to not start dancing wherever I am. When the music gets in my head, I just can't help it!  I used to go every Thursday in college at this place called the Artful Dodger with a group of friends. It was by far the best part of the week.

Then when I first met Jon, I convinced him to come with me to a place in Richmond a few times.  Yes, he had a serious case of "white boy hips" at first, but he got over that fairly quickly. The chemistry between us on the dance floor caught my attention pretty quickly and that was when I decided that there might be something more to this Godly, ridiculous man.

Since being married, we have not gone much due to the late nature of dancing, and the early nature of work. But a couple weeks ago, we discovered this place called Havana 59.  Let me tell you, this place is incredible!!!

$4 Mojitos and appetizers during happy hour.  2 open air patios covered in string lights and palm trees. Dancing that starts earlier and a cheap cover charge.   Free lessons.

Need I say more?

I only regret not finding it sooner. It's only 3 and a half weeks before we move now.  All the same, if you are in Richmond, you should go!

The Porch of Eternity

"Fight for us, O God, that we not drift numb and blind and foolish into vain and empty excitements. Life is too short, too precious, too painful to waste on worldly bubbles that burst. Heaven is too great, hell is too horrible, eternity is too long that we should putter around on the porch of eternity."  - John Piper
