April Updates

I've been very slow on my updates as life has either been uneventful, or so eventful that I forget to write any posts. Time to play catchup! Here's what has been going on in our little corner of the world...

A couple weeks ago, we were back home for the wedding of my dear friend Regas. He has been one of my closest guy friends since sophomore year in college. I have only had a few friendships over the years that have impacted my life as deeply. He has been such a grounded source of Godly encouragement through many awkward life stages. I'm so glad that we have made it a point to keep in touch even after moving to different cities after college. It has been a wonderful blessing to watch him grow, mature, and now get married. His new wife Christy is so beautiful, inside and out. We cannot wait to get to know her better. Here's a great photo from a Christmas dance Regas and I went to in college, and then one of us now with our respective spouses. We sure have come a long way! Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Scott!

It was a beautiful wedding on a farm near Charlottesville and such a time of refreshment. It was such a joyous occasion celebrated with old friends and beautiful scenery.

It was a great mini vacation for us to be back in Virginia and celebrating dear friends. Also, I really have such a dapper husband. Look at that bow tie!

One of the best parts about weddings is getting to catch up with old friends you may not have seen for a long time. It feels great to catch up and pick back up where we left off... even if that means constant ridicule from a certain few. I suppose sarcasm is indeed a love language.

Being home also meant being able to catch up with family. In our whirlwind trip we were able to see everyone except Jon's brother. We even made a day-trip to Williamsburg for brunch! It was perfect weather and there happened to be an arts festival going on as well, so we took that as an opportunity to walk around and let food settle.

Back in Richmond, we decided it was time to take some family photos with my parents. It's been almost 4 years since the last time we took pictures together... my wedding! It's always strange yet comforting returning to the house I grew up in. My parents never moved, so I've lived the majority of my life in that house. And yes, even our cat made a cameo appearance.

After returning to Memphis, we had a busy week of work and then a super refreshing Easter weekend. One of the highlights was a picnic at Shelby Farms Park with our friends the Martins. They recently had a baby and he made the time exponentially more enjoyable. Fresh air, warm sun, good food, and great friends = wonderful naps on the blankets. Perfect.

We have been working in the garden a lot this week as well as helping some friends in their yard. Normally, these activities bring me great joy and refreshment, but Spring is officially here in full force. Everything is coated in a thick veil of yellow as the pollen rains down and rapidly clogs my respiratory system. I love Spring at first, then I begin longing for Summer and relief from allergies. Oh, to breathe easy again! Memphis is ranked as the second worst city for allergies this year, and I am understanding this a little too well. Exhibit A:

I've had to sleep on the couch for a week in order to not wake Jon with my hacking cough. He only has a couple more weeks of school left before summer and testing time is approaching quickly. It's been a big week for him, so he needed his beauty rest more than I did.

This week, Jon was able to be a part of something really special. He's been helping coach the girl's track team at his high school this Spring and was deeply troubled that many of them did not have proper running shoes or clothing. He decided to make a phone call to his favorite running shoe company to see if they were willing to help in any way. I don't want to spoil the surprise just yet, but keep an eye out for an upcoming post to see the results. ;)
